Instagram Story Downloader
Stories vanish after 24 hours — ReelsDownloader lets you keep the ones from public accounts. Paste a link to a public Instagram Story and download the original photo or video in full quality. This only works for accounts that are public; we never access private profiles, and you download nothing but what is already openly shared.

The twenty-four-hour clock is the whole problem
A Story is the only thing on Instagram designed to destroy itself. Twenty-four hours after posting, the public endpoint stops serving it, and no tool can retrieve what is no longer being served. This is not a technical obstacle that better software solves — it is the product working as intended. Practically, it means the decision to save a Story is one you make the same day, not one you postpone. The exception is a Highlight: when a creator pins a Story to their profile, it moves to a permanent endpoint and remains reachable indefinitely.
Stories are a sequence, not a file
Most accounts post several Stories in a row, and the app plays them as a continuous reel. Underneath, each tap is a separate item with its own media file, its own type, and its own timestamp. One item may be a photo, the next a fifteen-second video, the next a re-shared post. A link to "someone's Story" therefore points at a tray rather than a single asset, which is why the number of files you get back may not match what you expected from watching it.
Photos and videos behave differently
Story photos are delivered as JPEGs at roughly 1080×1920 — genuinely the resolution the creator's phone produced, since Instagram compresses Stories less aggressively than feed posts. Story videos are capped at fifteen seconds per item, so a longer clip posted to Stories is automatically split into several items. That split happens at upload, which is why you get multiple short files rather than one continuous video, and why stitching them back together afterwards never quite matches the original timing.
Overlays are baked in
Stickers, polls, music attribution, text, GIFs, and location tags are rendered into the image or video before Instagram stores it. There is no clean underlying version without them. If you want a Story photo without the text a creator typed over it, that file does not exist anywhere outside their camera roll. This surprises people who assume overlays are drawn by the app at view time — they are not.
Public only, and think about why you are saving it
Private accounts and close-friends Stories are not accessible, and attempting to work around that is neither possible here nor appropriate. Even for public Stories, the ephemerality is often deliberate: people post to Stories precisely because it disappears. Saving a public Story for your own reference is unremarkable; redistributing it, screenshotting it into a group chat to mock someone, or archiving another person's daily life is not. The technology does not draw that line for you.

Instagram Story downloader — FAQ
Can I download someone's Instagram Story?
Only if their account is public. ReelsDownloader resolves publicly available links only — it cannot and will not access private stories.
Will the person know I saved their Story?
ReelsDownloader itself sends no notification. But please respect creators' privacy and rights, and only save content you are permitted to use.
Do Stories download as photo or video?
Both — you get whatever the Story actually is: an image, a video clip, or several items from a multi-part Story.
Can I still save a Story after 24 hours?
No. Instagram stops serving expired Stories entirely, so there is nothing left to fetch. The only exception is a Story the creator pinned as a Highlight, which moves to permanent storage.
Why did I get several files from one Story?
A Story is a tray of separate items, each with its own file. Tapping through what feels like one continuous Story is actually moving between independent photos and clips.
Can I remove the stickers or text from a saved Story?
No. Overlays are rendered into the image or video at posting time, so no clean version exists anywhere outside the creator's camera roll.
Why are Story videos so short?
Instagram caps each Story video item at 15 seconds and splits anything longer at upload. That is why a 45-second clip arrives as three files rather than one.
