Instagram Reels Downloader

Save any public Instagram Reel as a clean MP4 — the original file the creator uploaded, with no ReelsDownloader or Instagram watermark and no quality loss. Paste the Reel's share link, pick the resolution you want (Instagram often serves several), and download it straight to your phone or computer. No Instagram account, no app, and nothing is stored on our side.

Works with public links only. We never store the videos you download — links are resolved on demand.

Why a Reel you export from Instagram looks worse than the original

There are two very different files behind any Reel. The first is the one the creator uploaded — usually 1080×1920, encoded once by their phone or editor. The second is what Instagram serves back to viewers, re-encoded for streaming and sometimes stepped down to 720p when the platform decides your connection or device does not need more. If you use Instagram's own "save" path inside the app you often get the second file, plus a watermark identifying the account. Resolving the link directly gives you whichever renditions Instagram is actually storing, so you can take the highest one rather than the one the player happened to pick.

Reels are not the same as feed videos

This trips people up constantly. A video posted to the feed and a Reel can look identical in the app but sit on different endpoints with different aspect handling. Feed videos retain whatever ratio they were uploaded at; Reels are normalised toward 9:16, and a horizontally shot clip published as a Reel gets padded or cropped at publish time. That means the file you download is the padded version, because that is genuinely the master Instagram now holds — the original framing was discarded on upload, not at download.

Audio, and why it sometimes disappears

Reels using licensed music from Instagram's audio library carry that track as part of the rendered video, so it downloads with the clip. But Reels can also be published with the audio attributed to another creator's original sound, and in regions where a licensing deal lapses Instagram will mute the track for some viewers. If a Reel plays silently for you in the app, the muted state is what the endpoint returns, and the download will match. Checking whether the Reel has sound before saving it costs a second and saves confusion later.

Multiple qualities are normal — pick deliberately

It is common to be offered two or three renditions of the same Reel. Bigger is not automatically better if you intend to re-share on a platform that will re-compress anyway, but for archiving, take the largest. The file size difference between a 720p and a 1080p Reel is typically two to three times, which matters if you are saving dozens of clips to a phone rather than a desktop.

What will not work

Reels on private accounts are unreachable, and that is by design rather than a limitation to engineer around. The same is true of Reels that have been deleted or restricted in your region — the endpoint simply stops returning media. If a Reel resolved yesterday and fails today, the most likely explanation is that the creator removed it or switched the account to private.

Credit the creator

Saving a Reel for offline viewing is ordinary. Re-uploading it to your own profile without permission is not, and it is the fastest way to get an account actioned. If a Reel is worth keeping, it is worth crediting.

Instagram Reels downloader — FAQ

How do I download an Instagram Reel without the watermark?

Copy the Reel's link (tap Share → Copy link), paste it into the box above, and press Download. We fetch the original source file, so there is never a watermark or logo overlay on it.

Can I download Reels in HD / 1080p?

Yes — when Instagram serves multiple resolutions we list them all, so you can pick the highest one (often 1080p) instead of a downscaled copy.

Does it work with private Reels?

No. ReelsDownloader only resolves publicly available links. Private accounts and unlisted content are not accessible.

Why is the downloaded Reel a different size than the original?

Instagram re-encodes every upload for streaming. The file you get is Instagram's stored rendition, not the creator's export — typically 1080×1920 but at a lower bitrate than what left their editor.

Can I download a Reel that uses licensed music?

The audio is rendered into the video, so it downloads with it. The licence does not travel with the file: music cleared for playback inside Instagram is not cleared for a video you publish elsewhere.

Does downloading a Reel notify the creator?

No. Instagram sends no notification for viewing or saving a Reel, and nothing here contacts the account.

Why did a Reel that worked yesterday stop working?

Almost always because the creator deleted it or switched the account to private. Instagram's media URLs also carry short expiry signatures, so a saved link goes stale even when the post is still live — resolving the post again mints a fresh one.
